Bernstein and Shakespeare did it better
This remake (parody) of Romeo and Juliet doesn't have the lofty language of Shakespeare's play (at least the English - don't know enough Portuguese to judge) or the great score of West Side Story. I suppose if you set out to cast football hooligans as the Capulets and Montagues, what can you expect? I didn't like either the Romeo or the Juliet. He's as dumb as the average professional athlete, so it's easy to believe that he can't figure out who's dead and who isn't. She's so fast to bed that there's no innocence to the Juliet character. Think slut.
However, what I really didn't like about this movie was the team doctor. He looks and acts like he needs a stiff drink, immediately. If it came to a choice between the team doctor and an East German track coach to tend my sports injury, I would give the nod to the East German every time.
I would advise watching this movie only if you need a good laugh.
